Commonly drawing is known to be a solitary activity, however, the Surrealists imagined ways to create images collaboratively and meditatively as exercises in letting go of control to access the subconscious, achieving unthinkable images. The students worked together to create Exquisite Corpses, a drawing exercise invented in the 1920s by surrealist artists.
Sculptural Line Drawing
By creating a sculpture from line, young learners were able to hone their understanding of contour realized in a sculptural form. Galvanized wire was manipulated by the students through bending and riveting to layer line contours in a small depth of field. The young creatives were taught how to use two dimensional elements of art in their forms to have them consider ways to push their technical skills.
